ジャマイカから約13,000キロ離れたニュージーランドで育ったにもかかわらず、ナラムは現代におけるデジタルレゲエとラバダブの最も本格的な作曲家として名声を博したプロデューサーです。
1980年代にこのサウンドのパイオニアとなったジャマイカ人たちに影響を受け、ナラムは若い頃からデジタルとラバダブの科学に魅了されていました。
2014年、Disruptの勧めでドイツの著名なデジタルレゲエレーベルJahtariに加入。その結果、初のアナログレコード作品となるダブルLP『March of the Gremlins』がリリースされました。この2枚組LPは、ノスタルジアと未来主義がダークで皮肉な形で融合し、高い評価を得ました。
それ以来、彼の作品はJahtariをはじめ、Scotch Bonnet、Cubiculo、Irie Itesなどからもリリースされ、何十回もレコード化されてきました。
2017年にはニュージーランドの友人と共に自身のレーベルRed Robin Recordsを設立し、現代における最高峰のラバ・ダブ・レーベルの一つとして確固たる地位を築いています。中でも注目すべきは、2020年にリリースされた「Midnight Riders meets the Naram Rhythm Section」です。この曲はハードコア・レゲエ愛好家の間で世界的に高い評価を受け、ファンによって何百万回もストリーミング再生されています。
Midnight Riders以外にも、彼のリディムはCutty Ranks、Midnight Riders、Linval Thompson、Freddie McGregor、Earl Cunningham、Junior Cat、Ranking Ann、King Kong、Tippa Leeなど、数え切れないほどの豪華ボーカリストによって歌われています。
Despite growing up in New Zealand some 13,000km from Jamaica Naram is a producer has gained a reputation as being arguably the most authentic composer of digital reggae and rub-a-dub in the modern era.
Inspired by the Jamaicans who pioneered the sound in the 1980s, Naram became obsessed with the science of digi and rub-a-dub at a young age.
In 2014 he was encouraged by Disrupt to join the renowned German digi reggae label Jahtari, which resulted in his first vinyl release, ‘March of the Gremlins’ ? a double LP that won critical acclaim with its dark, ironic blend of nostalgia and futurism.
Since then his music has been pressed to vinyl dozens of times with more releases on Jahtari, as well as Scotch Bonnet, Cubiculo and Irie Ites.
In 2017 he established his own label with a friend in New Zealand called Red Robin Records – which has now established itself has one of the premier rub-a-dub labels in modern times. Most notably they released ‘Midnight Riders meets the Naram Rhythm Section’ in 2020 which won critical acclaim globally amongst hardcore reggae lovers and has been streamed millions of times by fans.
As well as Midnight Riders, his riddims have been voiced by a killer line up of vocalists including Cutty Ranks, Midnight Riders, Linval Thompson, Freddie McGregor, Earl Cunningham, Junior Cat, Ranking Ann, King Kong, Tippa Lee and countless others.
